As we welcome 2024, it’s time to start planning your holiday to Cornwall amongst the rolling waves, tranquil coast and bountiful beaches. At Bodrugan Barton we have a home for every holiday, offering a peaceful respite for adventurers and amblers alike. With so much on offer, from world-class eateries to outdoor exploration, there is no time like the present to start planning your escape to the Duchy.
Holidays for adventurers
With its rugged coastline, expanses of water and countless opportunities for exploration, Cornwall really is the home of adventure. Kick off your stay by climbing on board a speedboat with Mevagissey Rib Rides to get a snapshot of the place you’ll be calling home for the next few days. Here you can spend twenty minutes speeding across the surface of the Atlantic, delighting in the adrenaline rush of ‘Bouncing Betty’, the bright yellow boat that glides effortlessly along the coast. If you prefer to spend time in the water, then you will never be too far away from the sea. Snorkel in the shallows to discover an underwater world of wildlife before returning to shore to relax and refuel. Alternatively, rent out a kayak to truly take in the beautiful wildlife and sights of the coast at your own pace, either by yourself or sharing with someone else. Moor up in a cove or nearby beach for a well-deserved rest watching the world go by as the waves lap up against the sand. For those looking to admire the water from a distance, adventure across the South West Coast Path or stroll along one of many circular routes near Mevagissey through woodland and countryside. Wherever you find yourself wandering, there is no doubt that you’ll be surrounded by all-encompassing Cornish beauty.
Holidays for couples
Equally, Cornwall is perfect for couples seeking an escape to a peaceful corner of the world. There is a variety of romantic walks close by, either atop a cliff at dusk, watching the sun sink beneath the rippling ocean, or perhaps not far from your cosy cottage around the harbour in Mevagissey. While Mevagissey is the closest of a number of charming coastal towns waiting to be explored this shouldn’t stop you from venturing further; Looe is a true gem and working fishing port, the perfect place to watch boats return every evening before dining on fresh fish in a local restaurant. Just half an hour from Mevagissey is Fowey, a port town full of fantastic pubs and eateries right on the water. Meander through the winding streets or get a boat tour to peek at hidden spots, like the home of Daphne du Maurier and the famous Sawmills recording studio. The Roseland is just as picturesque and is a designated part of Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for the quality of its landscape and coastal scenery.
For something romantic, while away the afternoon with a visit to one of our breathtaking clifftops. Bring a picnic, sit amongst the flora, fauna and historic tin mines – you could even sip on a glass of something delicious from local Bosue Vineyard which produces Cornish wine from Cornish vines. If you prefer a pint, take a trip to St Austell Brewery which has been brewing its own beer since 1863. Since then, it’s gone on to run an impressive pub estate and with over 180 pubs dotted across the South West, you’re never too far away from a refreshing beer and freshly prepared meal. For couples looking to stay tucked inside in the warmth, simply while away your evenings in front of the fire after a day of exploring the best Cornwall has to offer.
Holidays for families
If you are coming to the Duchy with family then start by exploring the great outdoors. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a network of magical gardens, woodland walks and farmland brimming with interest and intrigue. Similarly, the Eden Project provides a feast for the senses all within its giant tropical biomes. Spend the whole day exploring rainforests, outdoor gardens, exhibitions and adventure activities. For another educational visit, head to Wheal Martyn, the UK’s only china clay mining museum with 26 acres to explore, 203 years of mining history and a whole year of admission so you can come back when you return to Bodrugan Barton. If you’ve come to Cornwall for the coast, head to a nearby beach and go rock pooling to explore the fascinating plethora of wildlife on your doorstep. This is guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours while getting a healthy dose of fresh air. After this, go for a bracing swim in the sea and spend the afternoon amongst the waves before returning to land to refuel with a picnic.
